Step 4: Good enough!…For now?

This post is part of a series on innovation and problem-solving methods that starts here.

We’ve ideated, expanded our horizons, conducted experiments, prototyped, tested…We have covered as many requirements as possible…we just might be ready to show our work…what now?

The last step in our 4 methodologies say:

Kemura Step 1-4 fixed

Hmm….Act accordingly? Control? What Works? Doesn’t this all sound like a story with no proper ending?

It does indeed, yet it has led to a lot of the discoveries, and applications we take for granted today. In practice there comes a time when we reach a point called “good enough for now” — but if you are in any field that entails any type of competition, you know very well that the keyword there is “for now”

Good enough to Go live,

Good enough to Publish,

Good enough to Produce,

Good enough to Ship,

Good enough to take another step forward.

And you must take that step forward because otherwise,…you will never know “what works”, and you will never be able to “control” or adjust where you need to.

In other words…enjoy the race because that finish line is a moving goalpost, take a moment to savour the progress, be kind to yourself and your team in reviewing the mistakes made, not to justify and accept them, but rather to be in a place where you can see the lessons that each situation is trying to teach you.

As Mary Schmich says, via Baz Luhrmann in the famous Sunscreen song: “The race is long, but it is only with yourself”

Have a fabulous Sunday, and keep on keeping on!
